At the current stage of research on thermonuclear fusion a wide range of diagnostic measurement methods for ITER and medium-sized devices, such as W7-X, WEST, ASDEX, JET etc. is developed. The research is expanded based on modern technologies of 21st century, advances in detection methods and possibilities of modern electronics. The results obtained from the individual measurements are used for a complex interpretation, since there is no parameter describing the final high temperature plasma properties which can be derived exclusively from a single diagnostic line.

Such an approach requires people working in this field of research comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic methods. This is even more important because the next fusion devices, dedicated to thermonuclear power stations will be equipped with an optimally minimized number of diagnostic methods. People involved in this later stage of application of fusion reactors will be expected to have broad knowledge of diagnostic methods and the ability to interpret the results obtained with different methods.

General assumptions of the school:

  1. The School is addressed to graduate students with their tutors. The School will be held in a spirit of "master and apprentice" approach.
  2. Lectures supported by "hands-on" tutorials will be given by eminent world experts in the field of plasma physics.
  3. Oral presentations will be also given by PhD students.
  4. Special student's round table brain storm for dedicated problem.
  5. Summer School will be held every two years.
  6. The papers, especially those prepared by PhD students will be, after a proper evaluation, published in a scientific peer-reviewed journal.
